Anybody have good luck with a particular type of factory ammo in the 300 wsm? Looking for an elk / mule deer option in factory ammo until I have time to work up a handload. Thanks!

Hornady precision hunter 200 eldx, nosler trophy grade 180 accubond both shot well in an xbolt. Barnes 165 not so much.

I was afraid you'd recommend that nosler trophy grade... It shoots great for me but $50+ a box stings! I guess you can't have it all....

I just shot my Xbolt HC speed with a cheap box of 165 gr federal fusion to sight in scope and get some brass. Shot .86 at 100 and was holding under 3 in at 300. I was pretty happy with that for under 20 bucks a box.

Barnes TTSX 165's shoot just as well as my hand loaded TTSX's. Out of my Kimber Montana I can get a 1.5" at 300 yds.

If cost is a factor try out the federal fusions. I've used those to take deer, elk and antelope and accuracy is great.

Second Barnes TTSX. No real difference between factory and my handloads in my Sako A7 300 WSM.

Federal 165 gr. Fusion Factory Load was the fastest and most accurate factory load that I tried. Beat the WW 150 gr, XP-3 loan by 6 fps! Federals 180 gr. Power Shok loading (cheapie blue box) was the fastest 180 gr. load, and was also very accurate.

I've had good luck with Federal Premium 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips. Shot lots of elk, sheep, mtn goat, muledeer, bear. and pronghorn. Fairly impressive groups and ballistics.....3250 at muzzle with 9" drop at 300 yards.

I was trying to get the Hornady 200g ELDX to group out of my X-Bolt long range one night, then this happened...now I have a decision to make! 20190715_213634.jpg

I’ve had great accuracy with Winchester Supreme 180gr Accubond but weight retention hasn’t been great on elk.

For factory, Hornady Precision Hunter or Federal Trophy Copper. However, for my handload i use a Barnes 180 grain TTSX bullet (the barnes factory ammo didn't shoot well out of my rifle).
