Got a newly built 300wsm weighing 8.2lbs ,put a live oak accuracy brake on it am shooting 185 bergers at 3100fps rifle has a good bit of muzzle jump to it ,so much that I have to hold bipod to keep it down , especially shooting prone ,my other customs are 9.5 lbs and dont have this problem, Do u think I need to switch brakes or is it the nature of a light rifle. Thanks for any advice.

Wow, that's an amazing amount of jump for a 300 WSM? I have a Sako Finnlight 300 WSM and shoot factory 150 grain noslers….it hardly kicks what-so-ever. In fact, I would say my 270 Remington kicks more than my Sako! I wouldn't exactly say an 8 lb rifle is light? I looked it up and my Sako is 6 3/8 lbs without a scope.

Have you shot it without the brake? Got a pic of the whole rifle?

I googled that live oak brake and it looks like it has 90 degree ports. Something with rearward facing ports will definitely reduce recoil and muzzle rise more at the cost of increased noise behind the rifle. APA, Terminator, MBM, Area 419, Christensen slayer, etc all fit the bill.

I’m a big fan of Area419 brakes. The sidewinder would resolve your issue. I just put one on my brothers 300prc. He said it kicks like creedmoor

Mesa Precision makes a 3 port ti brake that's ported on the top. Would help eliminate some the muzzle jump. I'm curious of your results as I'm having a lightweight shorter barrel 300wsm built for high country hunting.
