Your barrel length will depend on what Suppressor you are using? What is the shortest they recommend for a 300 wsm? I would go with that - the shortest your Can company says you can go with it.

I have a 300 wsm with a 26" barrel +2" brake. hate how long it is, but I do get 3190 fps with 168 TTSX . it has killed everything I have shot with it. The current rifle I am putting together for a suppressor has a 16" barrel!

Thanks for bringing up the point about bbl length and suppressor. Didn’t even think about it

Built this for Alaska just like your planning. At 18" the barrel doesn't stick up past my head when slung. Rifle will fit on the front rack of a full size wheeler and not hang over. Everything I have shot with it has died within 50yrds of where I shot it. I run federal premium 180g AB and don't pay attention to the numbers because I have seen the results.

Not a 300WSM, but I'm going with 7SAUM at 18" in a tikka setup with the long bolt catch. Don't have to worry about mag length that way seating bullets long.

depends what you wanna do with it and what kind of bullet your planning on shooting
I built my 300wsm for sheep hunting and want to be shooting 180gr bullets
its sits at 5lbs 4oz and has a 20" proof sendero.
I have it going 2940fps with 64.5gr H4350 with 178gr eldx which put me at 1500 FT-LB energy at 650 yards and 1032 FT-LB at 900 yards still doing 1621fps to get bullet expansion.
btw it feels like packing a .22 on steroids and i can literally fit the whole gun in my kifaru backpack if i wanted :)

if your wanting to be able to shoot longer than that and use the 200+ grain bullets probably would want to go to a 23-24" barrel.

Is this a custom action? Any pics?

I should have my latest 300 wsm rifle back in a month or so - went with 18” proof. I’ll report back how it shoots.

My existing 300 wsm has a 22” barrel and I like it but wanted shorter. It shoots the 200 gr LRX at 2830 FPS.
