Hi,
I decided to try a new load combo for CA deer (next year) and wonder if anyone has any experience with 130 grain TTSX's in a 308 Win? Tried to search this forum but didn't find anything. I've decided to save the Varget and 4064 i have on hand and experiment with IMR 3031. The ballistics look interesting for the round if i can find a group at 3K or better. 400 yards would be max range. Thoughts or experiences shared are welcome. Thanks, Jeff

I'd like to hear how it goes, too.
I'm a big fan of the 308 with 150-165 coppers.
I imagine the 130 will be great at short to medium distances.

I am thinking this would really shine out to 300yds.

I shoot the 130 grain ttsx in my 30-06 over varget. It’s 3/4 moa in my gun and very flat shooting. I just switched to Barnes bullets this year and have only taken an antelope with that particular load but it performed flawlessly.
Disclaimer: I personally limit shots to 400 yards.

Been using 130 ttsx for my .270 for 10 years. Eight elk and only one shot twice because he was still standing but wobbly on his feet. It is a good bullet and very little meat damage.

Should work great out to 400 yards. Guys have been killing stuff with 130’s out of a 270 for a long time. With monos I’m convinced that light for caliber is best.

I just worked up a similar load for my Savage 99 in 308 Win with a 22” barrel, but used 124 Hammer Hunters instead. I used TAC powder and I’m getting 3170 FPS. The load is also pretty accurate, especially for a lever action. I’m getting 1.25 MOA for 5-shot groups. I don’t have any on-game performance info yet.

My Kimber 308 shoots cloverleafs with 130gr ttsx and w748, book says should be doing at least 3000fps. Shoots very similar trajectory to my 270 out to 350 yards. Used it the other week to take my largest whitetail buck bedded. Didn’t move a single muscle, dead in his bed. So impressed by it will see how it does next year on elk.

I plan on loading up some this winter as well. I'll probably use IMR 4166 since I have quite a bit of it...but may load up a few with CFE223 to see what kind of speeds. 3k should be very easy to achieve.

Tagging in for a "lighter" bullet weight whitetail load in a T/C ICON in 308W.

Looking for bug hole load out of this newly acquired gun.

130 gr TTSX-50.2 gr TAC in Lapua case fired from Winchester Model 70 SS Classic Featherweight = 3,163 FPS.
~1.9" high at 100 yards
~4.3" low at 300 yards

Update. Worked up a ladder of IMR 3031 under the 130 gr TTSX. Started at 43 gr and stopped at 46. No pressure signs and decent group at 46 gr producing 3060 fps and very tight stand dev. I'm going to play with seating depths at 46 gr next. Promising so far.

Nice work, you easily made your goal from the first post. It's within sneezing distance in velocity to Barnes data and a scoshe under their published max charge weight.

22" barrel on you rifle? If yes, then spot-on for your slightly shorter barrel.

With the TSX and TTSX, all my rifles in a variety of chamberings and bore sizes shoot them very accurately.

With the TTSX, it expands right now on impact with that big opening behind the tip and still penetrates through and through on elk from most any angle. TSX and Original X don't make as much of a visual impression upon field dressing on the vitals on the impact side, fwiw, but no less lethal as they leave everything in chunks and tatters.

Diagonal quartering toward or away are the only shots that have caught any X bullet design under the hide on the far side of elk, never a recovery on anything smaller.

Accuracy wise it wasn't so with the early Original X, where they shot well in some but not as well (still good, not great) in others.

Pronghorn and elk have fallen to the 130 TTSX from my '06. Practically speaking, no difference to the .308 Win.

What's the main draw to the Hammers over a Barnes TTSX for guys that have tried them both? I haven't tried Hammers due to the aforementioned stellar performance of the TTSX in all my hunting rifles.
