Good Morning Reloaders!

Does anyone have a great hunting load worked up for a Sako Finnlight in .308 Win?

Load 44, 44.5 and 45 grains of RL15 at book length (2.80”). I have used that work up on several 308s and have gotten some really good results.

Not a sako but my tikka shoots noslers max load of varget (46 gr) into tiny holes with 165 ballistic tips.

Ok... Not having the luck I was hoping for... I thought there was tons of shooter error here but my final five shots were with factory ammo (1 flyer). Any ideas?

165 Gr. Accubond
Nosler Brass
Federal 210M Primer
Varget

44gr.

I’ve had similar issues... mine was with IMR 4064. Once I changed to H4895 or Benchmark, the groups tightened up quickly for me

Isn’t RL15 very close to varget as far as burn characteristics?

Yes, any load data chart for a given caliber and weight of bullet that has either Varget or RL15 listed, will have the other listed there as well.

So I’m wondering that if Varget didn’t produce well in OP’s rifle, then I’m not sure RL15 would do much better since they are similar powders

I dunno about that similar.....I would try whatever powders the manual has info for, if I had them. Rifles and loads can be peculiar things

I had a finnlight 308. My best accuracy was with IMR4895 and 165/180gr accubonds

I agree, just meant the OP may want to try other powders like H4895 or Benchmark that are different from Varget since the rifle wasn’t liking varget

Yeah I got you. I had a Fieldcraft in 308 that hated Varget, but loved RL15, so I think he should still try each one, if he has them on hand.

I'd try the 44.5 gr again and play with seating depths a little to see if it helps. My 308s have all liked Varget at the hotter end of the spectrum. Did you get pressure signs at 46?

Like the others have said, RE15 is my next up if Varget won't work. The Sierra accuracy load of 42 gr under a 165 or 168 has shot very well in all 3 of my 308s but it's slower than i wanted.

4064 has also been really good for me but slower velocities than i could get with Varget.

i started playing around with CFE223 but don't have anything worth sharing yet other that it seems finicky.
