I am attempting to form 338-06 AI brass from new 30/06 brass. I understand that I can use a straight 338-06 FL sizing die and then fireform. However, would it be possible to use a 338-06 AI FL sizing die ( and then fireform) as the 30/06 shoulders should fit below the steeper angle of the AI die shoulder without being altered (17.5degrees <40 degrees). In this way, I won't have to buy an extra 338-06 die. Any and all advice appreciated.

That should work just fine. All you need to do is expand the inside neck diameter enough to load .338 bullets. Fire them and resize with your AI die, and you're ready to roll.

That's all I ever did. Ran it through a neck sizing die, loaded a .338 projective and fired to get AI brass. With difficulty in obtaining components there for a while a tabled the project because i hated using a powder load and projectile up just to get the brass. I really need to learn how to fireform with pistol powder and some candle wax or something

No need to buy a standard 338-06 die, just size with your 338-06 AI die, load with your inexpensive projectile and powder of choice then fire form.
