I bought my 6 year old a 445 super mag barrel for his contender carbine earlier this year with the intention of shooting 44 mags out of it for deer and hogs. Which he did much to the dismay of 3 deer, 2 armadillos, 1 hog and a really spunky feral housecat. The 240 grain 44s were relatively low recoil and not super loud out of the 20” barrel. Now I’m headed to se ak in a few months on a diy coastal black bear bow hunt and want to load up some 445’s. The carbine is really small and light and will fit in my bowcase well. This is mostly for the off chance of a shot at a wolf. Not much 445 data out there does anyone have a recommended load for hardcast 240’s? And what (given good accuracy) would you feel the max killing rage is for scoped a 445 carbine?
Thanks

I shot alot of H110 with the Hornady 250gr FTX designed for the 450 Bushmaster in my rechambered H&R 44 MAG barrel. It was tough on game and I didn't ever have to trail anything I shot.

I've banned myself from posting after midnight.

Good luck, Dinny

The 445 Super Mag uses 0.429" diameter bullets. The 450 Bushmaster uses 0.452" bullets. Either you're really lucky that you didn't rupture your barrel, or something in your story isn't quite right.

Ahh crap! I was confused with the 454 Casull.

The 445 SM got loaded with the Hornady 265gr JFP meant for the 444M. It shot at 1900fps with a heavy dose of H110.

No more late night posts for me!

Thanks, Dinny

My last 445SM was built on a Marlin 336. The 30-30 barrel was swapped with a rechambered 1894 44 Mag barrel. It was a little picky about COAL but once I found the sweet spot it levered really well.
