My wonderful Bride gave me a early Christmas gift this year. I have always wanted a Sharps rifle, and especially since a good fried of mine got one some 25 years ago. He has since passed away but his stories of his moose hunt with the Sharps rifle will always be with me. (Good Man gone too soon) My plan is to hunt with it this year for moose and just wanted to share.

Whoa... That is a great rifle and a great caliber. If you reload, you can work up some really fun loads for that gun; including ones that won't blow your shoulder off :)

I hope you get to enjoy it for many years!

Nice, what make did you get ? I ordered a shilo sharps out of Montana a 45-110 though, years ago. Had to wait about six months for it to get built and arrive. I have not shot it much though. I had a hard time shooting it at even 100 yards with the open sights, and bought a set of MVA long range tang sights but have not shot it sense. They are very cool guns !

👆It a Pedersoli Sporter 45/70 with a 32” barrel. The customs like Shiloh and C Sharps are a 1-2 year wait.

With the 45-70 you can shoot smokeless to I believe. Although I feel they were made to shoot black, and I bought it because of that. Have you shot it yet ? If so what kinda groups if you don’t mind me asking ? I know I didn’t shoot mine well at 100 yards, but like I said I could not see the sights well at all.

I have shot it and since I have loaded the 45/70 for over 20 years I had plenty (smokeless) powder and bullets to get started. With 405 hard cast and 32 grains of imr 4198 it grouped less than .75” at 50 and 2” at 100.
My eyes has a hard time seeing the current sights so will be changing them out soon.
