Based on the feedback that I have seen this could have been the result of shooting sabot rounds through a muzzle braked gun. Supposedly there are warnings against doing that exact thing. Melted plastic could build up around the brake and pressure keeps rising. You will notice he was complaining about inaccuracy before the main event.

Throw in the design of that particular rifle and you have a disaster waiting to happen.
