57" rawhide and snakeskin backed Osage recurve

Getting close to finishing this bow. I applied the snake skin and stained the belly. I will apply a few coats of spar urethane and after that dries I will measure the final draw weight and mark the bow. I will post some pics of the final product at brace and at full draw.

Yep, that's a beauty. FWIW, I did the snake skins on a couple bows and recommend at least 5 coats if you are doing the spray on finish. You probably don't need as many if you are brushing it on.

Personally, I like that last couple of coats to be a fog finish. After you get on all of your seal coats, Hold the can way back and fog it....gives it a tiny bit of texture before you steel wool it to take away the gloss.

They say that super glue makes a great finish too


.....but my guess is there are hobby bows out there with a few layers of fingertip skin still attached to that crazy glue finish......grin

How the heck do they apply the stuff evenly?
