Just got back from Colorado. Tanya and I were lucky enough to kill two bulls with the 6.5 PRC with 147g ELD-Ms loaded in Bertram brass. The rifle is a Precise Rifle Solutions and very accurate.

The first day Tanya was up first but the elk were running through the trees and she did not feel comfortable with the shot so she handed me the rifle and I shot one at 80 yards. The Elk was quartering away, the bullet impacted the lower third of the bull and took out the heart and did a number on the lungs as well. The bullet didn't exist but the single wound left an easy to follow blood trail. The bull traveled a total of twenty yards.

Tanya's bull was shot at 715 yards. Again the bull was quartering away and the bullets impacted about six to eight inches behind the shoulder making a mess of the lungs. The bull spun on impact and Tanya sent another one into the shoulder. The first shot was fatal but we keep shooting elk till they are down. The bull only made it 5 yards. I did recover the second bullet just under the skin on the off side, it weighed 80 grains.

This combo excited my expectations on both shots. This little 6.5 is no Joke.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. It looks like the 147 is starting to make a reputation.

Great shooting! Two in the boiler room is some fine shooting.

I just picked up a Christensen MPR and a Ridgeline in PRC and they both stack 147s into little knot holes. It's a legit cartridge.

Awesome Bulls and great shooting. My concern with the 6.5 is for the times that will inevitable happen when the shot placement isn't perfect. Obviously a bad shot is a bad shot and doesn't matter what gun. However, I feel getting into the 30 caliber's your chances of recovery improve on slightly misplaced shots. Very easily could be my personal experience prejudice and not wide spread facts driving that opinion though.

Believe me I struggle with this too. I love big 30 Cals. But I do find with the lighter caliber I am more accurate especially if the rifle is lightweight too.

Derek killed one at 1080 Wednesday with his 6.5 prc..

Wish he'd hurry up and finish mine.
