6.5x284 NORMA IMR 4831

Ok times are tough. I have some H4350 I use in my 30 cals.

But I have a good amount of IMR 4831 (not H4831 or 4831sc). I’m trying to make this powder work with some Barnes Matchburner 140 grain for a 6.5x284.

Barnes doesn’t list IMR 4831 in its load data. My Lyman book lists a starting load of 43 grains for the 140 Grain.

so my question is not so much about favorite loads but does anyone have any suggestions or links to loads that may work for 6.5x284 Norma wirh IMR 4831 and Barnes matchburner 140s?

My nosler book lists their 140/142 class at 46-50g for all accubond, accubond LR, RDF.

my Lyman book lists their 140 class at 42.5-46g and they are using Sierra SBT #1730.

the hodgen on line data lists a 140 sp as also 43 starting and 47.8 tops for imr 4831
comparing the barns h 4831 data to hodgen h 4831 data i would start at 43

Yup, don't use this without trying some lower amounts first. I got up to 51.5g with a berger 140g, and 50.5g with a nosler etip 130g. Both shoot so well, like 1/2moa with a half assed shooter like me behind the trigger.

So much info online about perfect loads. But, good luck finding that "perfect" gear right now. So it's cool to have some experienced people help us with goofy loads.

AaronMColeman , by chance have you had any Barnes 127gr LRX that you have worked up for your 6.5-284? My rifle finally arrived a few weeks ago so time to get busy, & I randomly acquired a box of the 127 LRX this week in a trade.

Barnes has published load data for the 127 LRX, but of course for powders other than what I have in hand. Thanks.

What MV did you end up with?
My chronograph had an "accident" but I've got a load of IMR4831 and 143 ELD-X that shoots 5 shots into the 0.2's MOA.
18" barrel
Before my c'graph dies I was getting mid to medium 2800's using 50.0 grains.
No pressure signs so I'd like to ladder up to 52-ish grains and see what I get for MZ.

Goal is the 143@2900.
