Well I finally drew my ewe tag after I switched from applying in 482 to 680! My buddy has an archery elk tags for a portion of the unit, we both have general deer tags, and I have a ewe tag! We are planning on a 9 day float trip from the stafford ferry to James kipp. I talked to the biologist and got some intel for some starting spots from the river. But if anyone has any insight or advice I’d love to chat more! Hoping to set a ewe next to my frank church ram to complete my pedestal mount!

Hey I was thinking of doing something similar this year but failed to draw. Sounds like a ton of fun

I have done that stretch of river before in November. If you shoot me a pm I can help you out.

Congrats. The tag gives you a reason for a great adventure. A guy could always go up to Montana (or somewhere else new where there are nice Rams) on the same adventure and just take the spotting scope and camera, but we seldom take time to do things like that.

Just gettin around to posting. The hunt was awesome! Floating the mighty MO was definitely the way to experience the breaks and all it offers. We saw lots of sheep made some good stalks with my bow but ultimately got it done with my rifle so we could get down river on time. Anyone wanting to sheep hunt the breaks this is definitely a great way to do it. Here are some pics of our trip.

What do you want to know? The teal and white ones are both AIRE 146DD. then a 16’ RMR cat
That’s all I needed really. Any wishes to have a motor at all? I’m going to give the ram tags a few more years and then turn my useless max Montana NR sheep points into a big deer/elk/ewe trip like that.

We got lucky and didn’t have much headwind. I’ve heard it can get really windy. And you’d want a motor then but the river isn’t deep so you’d need a good prop guard and probably have to pull moss out of the prop at times. The elk hunting was a bust for my buddy. Very little sign. The south side for archery might have been better but deer and sheep would be a great combo. Saw several nice bucks but didn’t go after them and regretted it on one of them.
