Anyone tried the 190 gr Matrix in the 7mag? Didn't know if there was enough case capacity to push the 190 fast enough for the 1000 yd mark for hunting whitetails.

Jim, Probably need an 8.5 twist for that one. I have a Rock 8.5 and it is currently shooting the 168 Berger Hybrids at 3050 with very nice accuracy. Thinking the 180 VLD would be right there with the matrix on bc though. Lot of good choices. Retumbo and H1000 got me up to about 2900 with the 180s. There may have been a bit more, but not much in my rig. So kind of thinking 2800ish would be a sane max in a 7mm Remington with a 190.

If you read the details on matrix 7mm bullets they list 3 different types and first two are hunting bullet and the VLD are match quality using J4 jackets and they list 1/9 twist. I would guess their using same length jacket as 180gr and Berger makes two jackets one for hunting other match might want to call see which one matrix is using.

You may have same length as the 180gr but type of ogive may vary with the 190gr but Berger manual has loading data for the 7mag with 180gr and the top velocity is 2821fps low is 2705fps that's using 1/9 twist barrel @ 26" long. Berger manual for the 168gr bullets is appr 200/ 250fps faster than 180gr.

Not knowing anything about your rifle you may not do much above Berger VLD 180gr hunting bullet and that's really a guess. I've been working some loads up using Berger 168/180gr VLD hunting for my long throated 284 and 280AI both with 27" long barrels.

Well good luck

I've got a Hart #6 contour, 26", 9 twist. A 190 gr maybe just a tad heavy. Been shooting the 162 gr Amax for several years with great success, just thought I'd try something different. Never could get a Berger to shoot worth a crap in my rifle. Amax was a piece of cake to load. May even take a look at the new 175 Nosler LRAB. Not a lot of reloading info on the Nosler yet.
Thanks guys!

On the Nosler site on the rifles they test ABLR they use same data so for 7mm 175gr LRAB you would use 175gr Partition loads. I know they done 280AI with 150gr/175gr LRAD same data also for 270Wby 150gr LRAB same data. You might want to try the Nosler forum good bunch over there like here and I know some are trying them in 7mag.
