Just some good info for anyone interested. I just took the muzzle break off my 7 mm Rem Mag and was super tired of the 26" barrel it was screwed to. ( break is for sale )

So, I ran it to the smith and had him chop it to a true 23" barrel with an 11* re-crown. Rifle now weighs 9.25 lbs with everything on it.

Shot some loads just to re zero............71 fps less that's it!

Can't be happier and there is no extra muzzle flash!

Cut away!

Cheers

I agree, I got tired of long barrels too. I really feel like they’re a carryover from the days of no rangefinders. Trajectory is not as important as it used to be. I just cut two inches off My 270 WSM, and lost 58 ft./s. Gun handles better and heck, I think it even looks better

I cut 8" off an old Enfield 308 that had been sporterized with a Sawzall and recrowned it with a round headed brass screw and valve lapping compound. Rifle shoots tight groups with less then 100 fps velocity loss.
