Anyone running 195 EOL in their Saum? Quite a bit of info over in accurate shooter but they’re all running competition barrels. Looking for info on a hunting setup.

My rifle has a 20”, 1-8 twist barrel, XM action, and .232” freebore. From my rough calculations this bullet should seat the boat tail right at the neck shoulder junction for a COAL of ~3.125”.

I have H4350, H4831SC, N560, and H1000.

I think it’s too heavy to get the speed where I’d want. The h1000 would probably be the ticket out of your options.

I started with that same hope and with wanting to go with a shorter barrel and suppressed, I landed on the 175gr class of bullets. I wasn't gaining anything by going with the higher BC 195gr because they were going slower.

In a short barreled SAUM you would be better suited with the 168/180gr Berger’s. It will outrun the slow 195s.

Given I haven’t seen a single .284 Berger for sale in 12+ months, and 195’s being available right now, I am going to try them. Looking for real world experiences please. Not theories and opinions.

Can't hurt to try them. It wouldn't be any different concept than a short barreled 6.5Cm trying to shoot the 156grs. Up close it will thump and will damn sure thump more than an empty case with no bullet!

The 195s have worked well on game for me from my 28Nos. I pin drill all Berger’s now also.

I have shot them in 7 Saum with RL 26. Probably your best choice for getting velocity in that short barrel. I never could get good velocity with H1000 in Saum case. My barrel was 26 inch 9 twist and I was able to run them 2930 fps.

Thanks! Do you remember approximate COAL?

In my 7SS 22”
Rl26
59.5gr
2780fps

Haven’t tried 195s in my 7saum yet but they are nearly identical cases.

3.150 in my chamber. I shoot single shot action , so oal not a issue.
Loaded a dummy round tonight. I’m 3.200” touching the lands. I’ll probably start at 3.170” COAL. Lots of room for powder!

I’ve been looking into a 7 saum too and the data is sparse. The data I’ve seen typically revolves around those awesome powders that have seemed to evaporate.

Reached out to Berger for some load data. I picked N560 from that info. Shot a velocity ladder and found safe speeds probably in the 2690-2710 fps range. Pushed up to 2760fps but started to get some pronounced ejector marks. Not bad, but not amazing. 3.170" COAL, 20" 8 twist barrel.

Did some load workup with mine today. It is a 24" proof 1:8.4 and I'm working with ADG brass and H4831SC with the 195 Berger. Never hit pressure signs and seeing the best groups just shy of 2800fps. COAL is 3.056 which is .025 jump in my chamber.

Also worked up the 180ELDM with same components and settled at ~2875fps for best accuracy.
