Wasn’t pleased with how ABLRs were shooting out of my rifle. I’ve heard a ton of good stuff about Hammer Hunter bullets and want to give them a shot.

Wasn't sure what weight bullet to go with however. The copper solid bullet weights are a bit of a different beast due to their lower density and I’m not as familiar with them.

My rifle is a 22in short action 1/8 twist, I’d prefer to use H4350 but I’ve got a lb of H4381 as well. Target is elk this fall, max comfortable range under perfect conditions would be about 700 yards.

Try all other lead bullets before shooting a boutique mono.

My 280 ackley with a 22 inch barrel shoots really well with 143 grain hammer hunters and H4831. Right at 3100 FPS and load development was a cinch. Will be my elk and deer rifle for this fall.

I'm actually building a 7saum around the 172gr absolute hammer but I'll be considering the 155 as well. If you don't want to try the absolute I'd probably go with the 155 just to keep speed up. Steve recommends a minimum velocity of
1800fps however guys will argue it'll do fine at much less. Like any mono the more speed the better tho.

I run the 169gr out of a 26" 1-8 twist 28 nosler. I get it to 3280FPS with N570. I'd start there with a 1-8 twist. The hammers shoot awesome. You won't regret it.

Hammers have been really accurate for me. With the 7 SAUM I would look at the 155 class. If you want some extra speed the Absolute hammers work, but may need a faster powder.

call Steve at Hammer, he reloads a ton and will give you info and recommendations on which bullet and powder combo should work for you

143hh& 140ah would be my choice, 155s would do also but are pretty long taking up precious powder capacity. Willing to bet accuracy will not be an issue.

Shoot the 155HH in my 280ai, right at 3000 fps with RL26. The 143s will get you a bit more speed if that’s what you’re after.

Sent the guys at hammer an email. They recommended the 143gr HH’s. I don’t think I could go wrong but I figure they know best!

I chose to use the 140AH in my 7saum w/22" barrel. Excellent results. Double lunged my sheep at 177yards and I thought I'd spined him from how fast/hard he dropped. No ribs or spine were touched.

Final load was 3250fps with H4350. I had a decent node at 3300 - 3350fps with N550, but ran out of time to fully test the load.

Once I'm through my box of these bullets I'll be trying the 119AH, hoping for 3500fps.

@tdot what are your load details with the H4350 if you don’t mind me asking?

I couldn't get the 155 to group well out of my 8 twist 7 mag, but the 143 is the sauce. 3300 fps, single digit SDs and 1/4 MOA. Steve at Hammer prefers speed. Looking at my chart, this load should hold to 1800 fps out to 750 or 800.

New rifle, so barrel wasn't fully broken in, ADG brass new, Fed 215m primer @ 2.855" COAL
H4350, I shot a ladder from 53.0g @ 2787fps to 63.5g @ 3290fps. I had some very mild flattening of the primer at 57.0g but no other pressure signs until a very faint ejector shadow at 63.0g and 63.5g, bolt pressure never changed. Final load was 62.0g @ 3238fps. I'll be refining this further as the barrel breaks in and I have more time. As always, this was my rifle, work up slowly and safely in your rifle.
