Was going to try the heavier eld x out of my colt light rifle 1:10 twist , on the box says 1:8.5 recommended twist. My gun shoots 168 vld bergers great.

Also if loading for eld's can I start close to the same load running with the bergers?

Thanks

ELD bullets typically have a longer bearing surface than Berger's of the same weight and thus should develop pressure at slightly lower powder charges.

Berger classic hunters tend to have longer bearing surface than VLDs which tend to have a longer bearing surface than hybrids for a given weight. ELDx 200 has a longer bearing surface than 208 ELDm and 212 ELDx if i recall correctly because they are made to mag feed, same with 220 ELDx.

To answer your question - I wouldn't bother with a 10 twist and 175s, Id try the 162s. The 162s will likely take similar charges to your berger 168s, you should start lower if you decide to try 175s.

I’d agree with the previous post. My gun hated the 175’s with a 1-9 twist. The 180’s shoot pretty damn well and are my go-to. I’ve never tried the 162’s-168’s

I started with the Bergers and they shot very well. I switched to the Hornady because they shoot even better and I get about 50fps more with the exact same charge

I wouldn't bother with the 175's and a 1:10 twist. I'm running a 1:8 in my 7 mag, and they shoot great for me. They wouldn't shoot out of my 1:9.5 twist 7 Saum. The 162's shoot great in my 7 Saum though. I was originally shooting the 168 vlds with my 7 mag, and dropped almost 3 grains in powder charge with H1000 when switching to the 175 eldx (69.5 with vld, and 66.6 with the eldx). So if you do attempt to shoot the 175 eldx I would start much lower and work up.
