Good evening Roksliders. An attractively priced Tikka T3x SL in 7mm Rem Mag has come across my path. The owner bought it new and cut the barrel down from the factory 24.3 to 23 inches even. It’s an enticing deal, but I am a bit concerned the shorter barrel will create too much muzzle blast and reduce velocity below what the reputation of the cartridge is - especially because many factory options run 26 inches.

And yes, I know there are other options like the 7mm-08 and 280 that do well in shorter barrels.

An inch won't be noticeable in use. I wouldn't hesitate if it was a great deal. Good length for a suppressor, if you can.

Go for it as long as the crown isn’t ruined. You’ll give up about 30 FPS missing 1.3” of barrel.

Most reloading data is for a 24" barrel... variation in barrels/ammo will account for as much difference as barrel length. I have a 22" 7mmRM that is very usable. You won't know the difference, other than a nicer to carry rifle.
