8" boot, stiff, wide toe box, narrow heel

My feet are weird. It's hard to find the perfect boot. It's gotta be stiff, and I've got a high arch, wide forefoot, narrow heel, and need good ankle support for to injuries of the past.

Currently wear Meindl Comfort Fit Extreme. Love the toe box. Love the stiffness. A little more room in the heel than I need and they are a little tall. They are pretty ok if I don't lace the lady eyelet, but the heel is a little wide and I always have to tape.

Also wear the Salomon Quest 4D Forces 2. Toe and heel fit well, but they are short and not nearly stiff enough (toe with arthritis and a bone spir require stiff boits for long days elk hunting). They are basically like a stiff athletic shoe, fine for ask day street wear, but not a mountain boot for me.

I love an 8" boot. 6" are too short, 10" too tall, for me 8" balances height for water crossings and support, but still allows decent flextion.

Insulation not necessary, waterproofish (for a few seasons I would hope) is.

Anyone know of a stiff, 8" boot with a wide toe box and narrow heel that's got a membrane and is uninsulated, with a good reputation?

I've never found a boot yet that with a lot of miles and mountain work doesn't require taping my heels, but if that goldilocks boot is out there, I'd love to find it! Lol.

Thanks.

U just described my goofy feet and Lowa Tibets fit me pretty great

The Hanwag Ancash II GTX looks appealing. Do you order the same size as a running shoe? I order all my Brooks in 10 Wide and find them to be great. It seems other Hanwags in the past I tried on had to be sized up. Are the Ancash more true to size for you?

Those recommending the Lowa Tibet, I've had the Lowa Sheep Hunter years ago, hated them. Well made, they just did not fit well. Same for the Lowa Zephyr. Is there an appreciable difference between those two lasts/fit and the Tibets?

Thank you.

I'm going to send you a DM so If you would like to speak directly we can do so... What you are looking for is more of a combination type of last for the boot....This ultimately is the shape that is going to fit your foot much better while performing for you... Thanks

I found the comfort fit series a little too wide. I went with Meindl Vakuum hikers that are all leather, stiff, uninsulated. And I believe they are 7 3/4” or right at 8”. I have a high arch and wide forefoot with a narrow heel as well. My 2nd and third toe are as long or longer than my big toe so most toe boxes are too narrow and rub those toes. Meindl boots are what I have used for over 20 years.

@butcherboy, The Meindl Comfort Fit last forefoot was great, it's the heel that is too wide for me. I was always under the impression the straight fit last they used would be too narrow in the toe box. I'll give that some thought along with the Hanwag above. I might try the Lowa Tibet, but with the same last as the Hunter boot, I have my doubts on the Lowa. Great built boy, just don't usually fit well.

My feet our 9EE for my redwings for work. I checked out a local shop and they had me try on the Aku superlap gtx. Been great boots fit my feet well. This was in their regular sizing. They now offer a wide version. I'm interested to see how the wide would fit. If you have a chance, I would try them on.

Tibets, ticam, or briksdal. I’ve had good luck with all 3 and like a similar fit

I thought the Ancash fit small and tight. I also did not think their wide fit boot design was very generous with extra width, although they are roomier than their normal last which to me fits like a vise. I would recommend sizing up.

My old Cabelas Meindl’s are about shot and I’ve been back and forth on these 2 boots.
Sounds like I have a very similar foot to yours.
You didn’t find the Vakkum to be to narrow? That had been my concern.
Fully understand different fit for different people. Just looking for thoughts. Thanks.

My foot is a size 9 so it’s probably not as wide in the forefoot as yours is. It’s wide for a size 9 but not like someone who might wear a 12-14. When I bought mine I actually called Meindl and talked to them about it. They recommended that I go up a 1/2 size just because of those toes that are longer. The boots are fantastic for me. I now have quite a bit of room for my toes. I do need to wear a thicker sock which is fine for me since my feet are always cold. My toes don’t jam the front of the boot either going downhill. You could always try a pair just wearing them inside your house and then return them if they don’t work for you.

I had the Cabelas perfekt hikers. Probably some of the best boots I had owned. When they need to be replaced, Cabelas had stop selling them. Went directly to Meindl, unfortunately not the same fit at all.

I don't know what your foot injuries were so sorry if I'm way off, but I highly recommend getting out of those stiff boots. Or at least changing your mindset that you "need" them. My old injuries act up worse in stiff boots than flexible zero drop type shoes. It takes a bit to toughen up your feet and ankles, but I think almost everyone is better off spending their time in a more natural shoe.

All that said, I have similar shaped feet and I've been wearing the Lowa -Baffin LL and Camino's in a wide, when I do need a heavier boot. Reasonable price and easy enough to find.

Still have my Perfekt hikers but they are pretty much done now. I’ve had them for maybe 20 years. Never wore them except for hunting and I took really good care of them. I wear them now as a work boot.
