88 ELD-Ms

Just finished up a fair season here in Idaho and thought I would relay my experiences.

The 88s in my 1:7 twist 22-250 are more capabie than one might imagine. Didn’t INTEND to elk hunt with this rifle, but a scope issue with my son’s rifle led me down this path in a tight spot.

I killed a second bull later in the hunt with my .280ai and while it made me FEEL more comfortable,… the little .22-250 killed the bull just as dead with about the same distance traveled post-shot (30 yards).

Running 75eldm from an 18" 22cm. Loads sub moa at 400y. Running 3100fps. Shot two mulies this morning. First was medium body buck at 275(2600fps impact), in the crease, did a 50y death sprint and piled up, massive lung trauma, deer bleed out profusely from the mouth before I got to him, no blood...

MV was around 3050 as I recall. Terrible photo, but this was the exit side…

Shot distance was 270ish. I hit the big shoulder joint on exit, and it smashed it to pieces.

Killed a smaller buck with the same 88s on the same hunt, with similar results, though the bullet didn’t exit the deer fwtw.

More speed and less case stretch. And buckets of creedmoor brass.

I’m a huge fan of the 88 ELDM. My 22-250 AI scoots them along at a comfortable 3150 and performed well on a mule deer buck last fall.

Are you guys using factory formed 22 Creedmoor brass or resizing 6mm Creedmoor?

Have you needed to do any trimming or neck turning? Or has it just been resize and run with it?

I’ve just resized and shot. However, I would suggest getting 22CM if you can or 6mm cm.
