I'm looking for an alternative to my annual spring black bear baiting/hunt that at the same time would allow me a way to spend more than just my usual time during September in AK and thought I would tap into experiences here for suggestions. A few of the things I'm considering are hunting black bears, fishing, backpacking, or a combination of these things. To clarify, this current spring of 2021 is already planned out, so these questions are aimed at 2022 and beyond.
The first question I have is when is the best time to go after black bear during the spring/early summer? I'm assuming archery is a viable option at this time of year?
I would be equally as interested in the fishing at this time of year as I would in shooting a black bear. Can the two be combined? In all honesty at that time of year good fishing would be more important to me than good bear hunting. I've shot enough black bears that I don't necessarily need to shoot another.
Is backpacking an option to combine with fishing?
I'm planning to use a flight service for whatever this adventure morphs into.
What other options am I overlooking?
Any reasons the options I'm considering aren't good/viable/desireable?
