Alaskan Bow hunting side arm?

Does anyone carry a side arm while archery hunting moose in alaska? I will be with a guide, but not always will I be next to him as bow hunting can take me away from him if he is calling or raking. I will be hopefully super close to a large bull moose and there will be grizzlies and black bears in the area as well. Thoughts?

Is a side arm something to just get in the way? or is it more of a necessity?

I always carry a pistol when archery hunting. Had to use it on two grizz once.

Yikes. Those were probably eventful encounters! What caliber do you carry with? and how do you carry it? Chest, belt..?

Glock 20 or 29 on a gunfighters kenai chest holster. We used it on a black bear that wasn't quite dead after my son shot it with a bow, and it fell out of a tree almost on his head! scared him to death
