Alps Commander Frame Upgrade Idea

I've got a Commander frame that I used for hauling out my elk a couple years ago. It was just a day hunt so I used a smaller non-frame pack for the actual hunting portion.

Would it be a dumb idea to find a used MR pack or an ILBE or something similar and try and mod the frame to carry the pack? I know I could just buy a Commander pack but I don't care for the way it attaches so I might already be considering modding that, and if I'm thinking about mods why not get a nicer pack?

ILBE is a very heavy bag. It would need some heavy modding to make it function as a bag rather than a pack. I personally would not go that route. I have no input on other options mentioned.

I’m not sure what your trying to achieve but a larger dry bag attached to the frame vs modify a bag to work might be an option for you. It’s possibly lighter as well. Best wishes

This is mostly me kicking around (probably dumb) ideas for projects to occupy my time. I am totally prepared to accept "that will never work" as an answer.

I don't fully understand what you're trying to do. I bought the bag and frame a little while back, didn't seem like the two were overly expensive. Are you trying to put a different on the alps frame?

It would not be hard to modify a Kuiu or Kifaru pack to attach, not sure about other brands, but just as likely.

All you need to do at most is sew on some webbing and a triglide on the top and sides. Probably be able to incorporate some of what is there already.

The bag isn't expensive, you're right, but I don't really like the pin attachments between the bag and the frame. So if I'm already considering tinkering with the attachment, why not get a nicer bag while I'm at it?

I have an Alps Outdoorz Commander X Frame and pack available if anyone is interested. In great condition. Only used for one elk hunt and walking around the neighborhood to train.
