Cy
17 year old Percheron gelding
16.3h
1400 lbs

Cy rides and drives. He was bred and worked by the Amish so he has seen it all! He’s pulled carts, wagons, equipment. He knows how to work and is good at his job.
He is the first to meet you at the gate. He stands for grooming (I’m talking like a statue), loves baths, hops in the trailer like a pro. He will try to do anything you ask him to do.

Argyle, TX

I rode double on a Percheron up to an elk. About 5 miles. Jumped off, threw that quartered elk on him and walked him back out. I don’t know if he ever realized anything was on his back. They’re great pack horses! His feet were like dinner plates too.

We get the opportunity to buy many of these from the Amish. Too bad most of them have been used to the point they r just beat down. I have kept one for myself and love to ride them. Just big gentle giants.

Thats what these horses are bred for....WORK. Sure, they are nice for pulling carriages and wagons around at shows and fairs and they dress up nicely etc.....but they like to work. Awesome strength and endurance. Im a member of the PA Draft Horse and Mule Assn.

It’s a shame most of these horses come through our sale at like 15 years old and have messed up legs. They just get worked hard then there done. I mean I get it. That’s what the Amish use them for. This one was one of like 6 and he was the smallest.

Yes, 16.3 hands and 1400 pounds is a little guy. Many are pushing 18H and 1700 pounds. Amish have some giant mules too and strong as all get out. They pull plows effortlessly....for hours and hours. I love watching those teams work the land. A real sight too see. Don't let the modern mellenials or gen Z'er watch...they will freak out.

since we are talking about Amish and work horses i will tell a short story.
my work took me through the heart of Amish country in Ohio on a daily basis and the leather shop was a favorite stop. the old feller had a soft spot for me and my dad.

any way as i approached the shop one day a man was baling hay with a 3 horse side by side hitch and he was astraddle of a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine that drove a drive shaft to hay baler and it was hot. him an 3 clydes putting out hay bales in august.

on occasion i had seen them bring the hay to the baler and feed it in by forks as the old Wisconsin engine chugged.
