Ok resident experts

I currently have dialed my rifle in with 180 gr trophy grade e-tip bullets and couldn’t be happier. As many of you know etip has its limitations( max maybe 350 to 400 yards).

I would like the option to shoot out to 600 yards cross canyon..

If you were starting from scratch, what factory ammo would you use for elk and what would be your most comfortable moa grouping for hunting purposes?

Thank you for your comments in advance

Trying to improve my moa on 180 gr LR accubonds

Looking at the following:
1. ELD x precision hunter 200 gr
2. HSM Berger vld 185 gr
3 HSM Berger vld 210 gr

Any input on field data on animals would greatly be appreciated.

You could try federal edge tlrs. They are hit or miss on availability, but a really solid bullet design. Don’t have to worry about them exploding on an elk shoulder at close range.

Thank you. Just read a great article in shooting times about this ammo. Quite impressive...
If I can get a good moa it may fit the bill

Thank you

Barnes VOR-TX 165gr . It will flop an elk out to 600 no problem! And its very accurate.

My WSM handload of choice is with 200 ELDx but the hornady precision hunter shoots just as good with only a little more velocity spread. That is where I would start. They shoot sub MOA and frequently half MOA 3 shot groups which is as good as i'm going to shoot a lightweight 300 WSM.

My 300wsm loves the Nosler 180 accubonds!
That round seems to be a great combination of deadly and accurate for this caliber!
Putting together nice groups at 600yds with that combo.
Took an elk this year with this setup, a double lung shot dropped him in his tracks.

Are hunters finding great results with this ammo in the field?

Both the Nosler Trophy Grade 180 Accubonds and the Barnes VOR-TX 165 shot sub-MOA for me through two different 300 WSM rifles (a Nosler and a Fierce).

Why do you say that bullet is limited to 400yds? I used Federal trophy coppers 165gr (300 WSM) this year and my ballistics chart show it keeping 2000 fps just past 800 yds. I took 2 pronghorn (Buck and Doe), a Mule Deer and an Elk this year with that round. Ranges were from 250 to 550 and every one dropped with one shot. 600 yds is my comfortable max distance but I would still be confident the bullet would perform out to 800 yds. Looking at the Trophy Copper 180gr ballistics it should perform out to 750 yds. The Federal trophy copper and Nossler e-tip specs look almost identical.

My understanding is bullet expansion may not happen beyond 400 yards. Am I incorrect in this statement?
Please advise

Nosler's recommended minimum velocity for expansion with the e-tips is 1800fps. So the 180gr with a muzzle velocity of 3000fps at 8000ft elevation gets you out just past 900 yds.
