Pretty good haul today in Nebraska. Turkey hunt turned mushroom hunt.

Been finding a few morels lately, but has been too dry. Checked the rain gauge when I woke up and got 1.5" at the work center overnight. Still raining. I imagine memorial day weekend will be great for Morels here.

Nothing yet in ND. Had some warm weather this week, but now it's going to rain all weekend and the high temps for next week are in the 50s. Hoping for a bit of a warm-up to bring them out next weekend. I've heard when the lilacs start to bloom it's go time.

It's pretty easy to tell a false from a morel. Google heluva mushroom and it'll be easy to spot the difference.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST the national audabon society field guides to north American mushrooms. (Pretty sure that is the exact name). The guide is super easy to use ad has hundreds of pictures. It's easily the best guide I've ever seen.

After getting a good report from a buddy, I pulled the kids out of school today for a "family emergency"(we're out of morels) and did well. Here's one that we turned up.

We've picked close to 40 gallons of morels the last few days. Cooking a lot up and dehydrating a bunch. Finding them in last falls prescribed burns. The areas we burned with moderate severity has the best morels.

Last Thursday through Sunday we received over 3 inches of rain so we have outstanding picking conditions right now.

I regret even staring this thread! Im so jealous. The family and I have 6 hours windshield time so far checking burns without a single morel to show for it!

I've found three this year. They're the first morels I've seen in the west. This one was pretty good sized and the only one that didn't get stepped on!
