On our hunt it was a blast. Everything you could want from a sheep hunt. Lots of sheep a couple of good climbs and the typical ups and downs of your average sheep hunt. On my buddies we climbed up a couple of hours on a pretty good switch back. Once on top(you never really got on top) we spent about an hour trying to close the distance. Then we sat and waited for about an hour before the got up and started moving. It took about another 20-30 minutes before he cleared the other rams and ram down. You couldn’t have asked for a better hunt. It was his first sheep hunt and first mountain hunt. Couldn’t have asked for more.
My hunt wasn’t as smooth. Found a bunch of sheep at daylight. First we started with a bunch of ewes and lambs and some sub mature rams. They for some reason thought the rut was on and were banging heads all morning. After watching them for about an hour and going through them a bunch of older rams came over the top. These were definitely older rams and a shooter for sure in the bunch. Now all we had to do was get to them. A couple of hours and a long side hill hike we were looking at the biggest through my crosshairs. A few dry fires and I sent one on the way. Take over Murphy!! What I didn’t know is that there was a pass in between me and the ram. Thus pushing my bullet about 6 inches to the right causing me to hit him in the neck. And then Murphy takes over again. I’ve had my gun for 20 years never a problem until now. Case will not come out of my chamber. Broke the blade on my knife and what seemed like forever trying to remove the case finally it come out and as I’m now trying to get back on him over the mountain he goes. After a 30 min hike to where he went over not a sheep in sight and no clue as to what direction he went. A couple of hours of looking to no avail. The long hike back to the truck wasn’t much fun. With about an hour of daylight left Calan thought we should go back to where we had seen him in the morning. Dumb luck and my buddy spots him hiding by a rock wall. With what seemed like forever we were positive that he was my ram. With about 20 minutes of daylight left we had a choice try to get another round him him or wait until morning and hope to find him again. We chose to try and get another round into him. Several dry fires and multiple range readings I sent one on the way. Hit him in the shoulder and down he went. He flopped around and crawled behind some rocks and then nothing. We sat there until dark and nothing. After a long night and a couple hour hike up to where he was last seen I got my ram!!! Both our rams were 10 years old and were gold metal rams. We seen 400 plus sheep over the 5 days. The hunt was awesome and the food was even better!!!!! Great outfitter and will be going back again in the near future!!!!!!
