I've heard that glassing recent cuts can be good in the November late season in Oregon. But I've also heard that still hunting or out of the stands is the most effective. This will be my first year targeting blacktails in the rut.

I'm curious what optics you all are running and what your strategy is.

I am thinking of using an 8x42 on the chest and a 15x56 on a tripod. Glass the hillsides early light while I'm working in to my stand areas?

Thoughts?

What your thinking is exactly what I've used for the past few years and has worked very well.

That should work well for you. Some of the weather will dictate how far your glassing will happen that late in the year as the rain and fog will limit you more than your optics usually do.
