Whats everyone's experience archery hunting the rut?
I have found some great bucks that unfortunately hang out on private in the fields.
Do you think they will venture off the fields during the rut? Will they bed long enough to get a stalk in?
Thanks

They’ll go wherever the does go.
Oh thats good to know....Im not sure what the rut really means....I hear people talk about it but wasn't sure what happened during the rut...why do the bucks fallow the does?
Thanks for such useful information..

No one has any real input on this?
There's a ton of info online. Search for the species ecology for texts, YouTube has a bunch of great info. I won't regurgitate any of the information I've been learning, because I'm a new hunter and I have very little real world observations or knowledge. You'll learn a lot in an hour on Google.

You were given good advice. Whether you choose to use it is up to you.
Yes it was good advise for some one in a hunters education class...thank you for stating the obvious.. you going to also tell me that they will be where the food or water is?
Thank you captain obvious!

IME, it's like playing the lottery.

Can help and hurt at the same time.
Can be half mile away from the action and be screwed and not even know it, or right in the thick of it and still not get your chance.

I personally would rather go pre-rut. Get them moving a bit more, but not chasing hard.

All I know for a fact is they can cover ground a hell of alot faster than I can. And when trying to spot and stalk. Dont want them moving all the time looking for a suitor.

But then again the dice could roll in your favor and have a doe bring one right into your lap.

What a tool. Here's some solid advice on hunting mule deer in the rut.... Get off the couch and get after it. Nothing better than time in the field. Ed F

Yep, they will for sure leave private ground and go to the area you are hunting. You will just need to be there every second of legal shooting light to make sure you don’t miss it

With the questions you asked, you sound like you just may need a hunter Ed class. Don’t expect much help here with your attitude.
I was asking about peoples experiences during a pretty specific situation. If you haven't experienced these particular situations then its probably best you dont respond.
Now if you would have said." In my experience archery hunting the rut, the buck will often push the does off the fields and of course follow them where ever they go, how ever they typically don't bed long enough to get a stalk in." Or something along those line of your actual experiences then that would be good advise..
But just stating the obvious of "they will go where the does go" is not good aadvise.
Its the freaking RUT!! Of course they will go where the does go...

I'm guessing it depends also a little on the type of area your hunting. From what I read above, maybe your hunting mule deer, so this may not work. But here in Iowa I have relatively small properties to hunt, and typically I don't see bucks "bedded" much during the actual rut, seems like they are on their feet at all times of day/night (of course I don't know everything they are doing, but I tend to see bucks at all times of day and on camera). I would however say that i have seen these guys stay with a doe to the point where they could be stalked as long as you don't bust the doe. Not sure any of that is helpful or new info.

LOL. I doubt you realize it, but you are talking to one of the most prolific archery mule deer killers on this site.

Hey thanks for the input. Im originally from Indiana and have had the same experience with white tails..Unfortunately I'm not as seasoned on make deer as I am on whitetail and European deer.

Based on his responses I wouldn't have had a clue. I figured he was just some young 20 something year old who thinks hes smart.
Its like the guys asking about boot recommendations for hunting a specific area during a certain season and getting the respons of..."the best boot is one that fits your foot" answer.. it doesn't help anyone..

I do appreciate the guys who have given their actual experiences and given a thoughtful advise.

I guess I could have handled his smara** comment better by responding with a more specific question like " i get they will follow the does. But will they follow them to the point of pushing them out of their comfortable private field that gives them everything they need. (Food, water, shelter). If they are pushing them hard enough to push them into pressured public lands, will they ever rest long enough to get a stalk in? Can you rattle in mule deer? Its a very effective tactic on white tail in the east. But being new to the west I'm not sure if this is effective?
But wow.. I can't believe a simple question would bring "adults" to name calling.... seriously..we're supposed to be adults here who all have the same goals... share and receive information to hopefully make us all better hunter...
