I’m planning to go on my first archery elk hunt in September. I have an old PSE Whitetail Extreme in my garage that I’d like to take as a backup. I think it was made in 2001 and probably shoots 290 IBO.
Besides rigging up a new string and some other accessories to update it a bit, I need some arrows that will do the job if something goes horribly wrong with the primary setup.
On these older, slower bows, is it a good idea to go heavy on arrows for elk? Like over 500 grains? I would think with the speed I can get I would need to limit shots to 30 yards. Or would I be better off with something like what I am shooting already in the 430-450 range?
