I recently picked up an Athlon Ares 65mm spotting scope. After seeing threads about other scopes (Kowa, Nikon, etc.) performing well with fixed power eyepieces I am considering getting the 22x ranging eyepiece.
Has anyone used this eyepiece just for glassing/locating animals? Would there be any improvements in optical performance over the variable power eyepiece or would the reticle be more of a distraction?
