Hey all, doing some e-scouting in an area I have not been in before. Large portion of the area appears to have a lot of blowdown and/or beetle kill. I came across some resources that mentioned that some of a key trail into the area is closed due to multiple very large areas of avalanche debris.

This is my second archery elk hunt. I am curious about others thoughts regarding how blowdown, beetle kill, and avalanche debris over a large area will impact elk and an elk hunt, if any.

This is just me but I would probably pick another area, getting through a large avalanche area with blow downs is very hard, getting back with a load of Elk in the dark is dangerous,I've done it,never again.

I would suggest navigating it ahead of time for the reason laid out above.

I have hunted an avalanche area for probably 12 years. I've killed around 6 out of 20 to 25 elk in the area. It reminds me of a burn area. Good at first but eventually it gets too hard to hunt because it gets too thick.
