Read South by Alfred Lansing, then read In the Heart of the Sea by Philbrick.

you’ll get an excellent comparison showing how important leadership and trust in leadership really is.

I think that Shackleton wrote South and Alfred Lansing wrote Endurance, both are excellent.

Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne. Great book about the Comanche Tribe.
That is a good one..."Thunder in the Mountains", about Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce War, is a great read too...so is "Blood and Thunder", about Kit Carson and the Navajo Wars....so much Western history that is little known these days. "Black Elk Speaks" should be required reading for every American schoolchild, in my opinion...
....some of my favorites as a young kid were "Hatchet", "Brighty of the Grand Canyon", and "The Swiss Family Robinson"....

I'm looking for suggestions for books ( Christmas gift) for my 3 adult kids. This time not looking for hunting based books ( although all 3 hunt) , what are some of your favorite backcountry adventure type books that were a good read.
