How far do you want to drive? Lots of cool trails in the Telluride/Ouray area.
I'm coming from stl, what's a few more hours?! Hahaha

This doesn’t tick all your boxes but a real crowd pleaser. No fish up in the lakes. We took a family backpacking trip here this summer. A real high alpine experience. Ice and island lakes. Go mid week as it’s very popular.

We only had to share the lake with one other party of 2.

Ice Lake is very cool but be prepared to be there with 100 other people.

The trail head is very busy, the first 2 miles of the trail are very busy. By early afternoon the day hikers are headed downhill. By dinner time there were 6 people at the lake including my 4. The next day we went to island lake and were the only ones there. So yes to be fair this is a very popular hike and the lakes are above 12k’ but crowd wise I found it very worth the experience.
I also wanted to share a backpacking pic from last weekend. A bit more isolated and one state to the south but getting the kids 25’ from these sheep was quite popular as well

I'm not opposed to going further south! I'm actually heading there for first archery in Sept. Looks like you all get out and do a bit of backpacking, thats awesome!

Very nice trail. My daughter and I went to all 3 lakes last year. It was her first back country adventure. We spent a couple nights up there. Then went to Blue Lakes trail not too far from there. Another cool trail with beautiful lakes.
