i shoot barnes in every gun i own now, my 300 wsm hasnt found the right combo it shoots the 150 ttsxs really well at 3350 but im looking for a little higher bc, 257 wby is one of my favorites and my best friend shot his cow elk at 290 through the shoulders and it broke both of them and we later recovered the bullet. we shot 26 big game animals with them last year and i was thrilled with all them being one shot one kills.
I pushed a 100tsx through a Roosevelt at 400 measured yards, passed through and it flopped on the spot. The 257 is a laser beam with 100's @ 36-3800fps.

Do you get expansion on soft/behind the shoulder hits or are you shooting them high in the shoulder? Bang/flop or do they run?

I shot most behind the shoulder, exit holes in the 2"-3" size, and yes, they all ran between 10 and 50 yards (without lungs or hearts). In my experience Antelope run till their brain is out of oxygen.
I believe in light for caliber Barnes and heavy for caliber Berger and have had stellar results on thin skinned Antelope with both (140 tsx currently and 180 vld prior).

I can't remember if it was 7828 SSC or Big Game, but it was a healthy dose of powder and a 25" barrel.

I get 2505 with 286 North Forks with 63 gr of Bug Game. 25” as well. That’s basically a 375 h&h at that point. Cool round.

First, I am a believer in complete pass throughs if possible and controlled expansion bullets. I have shot Nosler Partitions, Nosler Accubonds, Nosler Balistic Tips, Swift A Frames, Swift Sciroccos, Speer Soft Points, Sierra Hollow Points, Sierra Game Kings, Hornady Spire Points, Hornady Interlocks, Hornady A Maxs, Hornady Solids, and Barnes X bullets in the TX and TTX. Last year I completely switched to Tipped Triple Shocks. 85 grain in .243 Win, 120 grain in .264 Win Mag, 120 grain in 7mm08 and 280AI, 150 grain in 308, 150, 165, in 30/06, and 180 grain in 300 Win Mag and 300 RUM.
I shot 20 deer with Barnes Tipped Triple shocks from 40-467 yards. The only bullet I recovered was the deer shot at 40 yards. The bullet went from end to end lodging under the skin on the ham. I estimate 4 feet of penetration and 97 percent of bullet weight retention.
Where I hunt, (southeast) if you don't plant a deer where you shoot it you need a good blood trail to find it.

I have almost completely switched to Barnes. They are simply more accurate in my rifles than Nosler. I still use 200 gr Partitions for bear but I will probably switch to Barnes when I use up my Partitions. Really no reason for me to use any other bullet.

For your 308 run the 168 ttsx they were designed for the 308 and 30-06
I tried this bullet in my .308 and it grouped wonderfully but with Varget powder I couldn’t get enough powder in the case because the bullets are so darn long. My velocities were way too slow. The shorter 150 may be better with the short case of a .308.

Another one down with the 8x57is shooting a 160gr ttsx. Shot at 260 yards only made it about 30 yards.28551.jpeg

Ok glad to see this thread
I’m new to game
My brother gave a bout a dozen reloads of the Barnes TSX
Today I shot the best group 0.5 moa out of 300 wsm. Never really got that with any other factory ammo.

my question is

Was it the reloading that shrunk that tightened the moa or bullet or the combo?

am I gonna become a reloader?

Could be both, mine shot factory 150 ttsx about half but it was always 4 inches left I finally found the 165 combo and now shoots quarter moa so it could be both sorry I know that doesn’t help much. Did you try factory Barnes out of your wsm? And if you want to reload I say do it.

Same boat here... I couldn't push the 168s fast enough out of my .308s with Varget, especially considering my three .308s are 16" barreled. The 168s grouped a lot better than the 150s did out of both of my Remington rifles (both 1:10 - M700 & M7) but the 150s grouped better out of my Ruger (1:10 GSR). So, I stuck with the 150gr TTSX with the Ruger but went back to bonded bullets with my Remingtons.

Not sure if that helps you at all, but that's been my experience.

I haven't recovered one in an animal yet. The ttsx just flat out shoots in my 270 WSM. Going to try 130/150s in the shorty 308 once I run out of eldx reloads.

I used Barnes TTSX for the first time this year. Worked up a great load for my 2 6.5mm Rem Mag rifles with 1 in 9 twist 20” barrel, 56 gr of IMR 4350, 100 gr ttsx with part of the plastic tip ground down to allow feeding from the magazine, OAL around 2.85”. Runs at about 3320 FPS. My wife shot a small desert muley at 180 yds, a little into the shoulder, cut a rib going in, top of heart shreaded, top of lungs destroyed, rib going out, left a golf ball sized exit hole. Bang flop, DRT. I was very impressed.

How do yall feel about shooting double lungs on a whitetail (vs a shoulder/bone shot) with the polymer tipped TTSX? I have the 120 gr loaded to around 2900fps in my 7mm-08. Shots will be inside of 100 yards, so should be 2800+ at impact

Give me a few weeks and I'll report back to you. That's exactly what I'm using for whitetails this year. 120 TTSX out of my 7mm-08 at about 3K

I've had great luck with 168gr LRXs out of a 7mm Rem Mag (as well as 140 TTSXs out of a 280 AI). They group well (MOA), mushroom well, and I've recovered a lot more of them than I ever expected I would. I think it's because I push them fast (2700 LRX, 3100 TTSX), so that they actually open on impact.

For what it's worth, the LRX seems a touch softer than the TTSXs. I recovered a bullet from a big bull elk this fall that went through both hind hams at 400 yards (I know, it was not an ideal situation) that had opened up beautifully and stopped under the backside hide. The shot through the chest on the same bull was a clean pass through.
