I have an 18” 6.5 PRC with a TBAC ultra 7 and love it. I’ll have a 16” one with a TBAC ultra 9 in a couple months. Short suppressed rifles are the way to go.

18" on the CM, love it. 20 on my 3006. With the 7mm-08 and 6.5, I'd go 18", the other 3, probably 20, but maybe 18.
Taking a Kimber 3006 over to the local gun smith to get threaded. Giving very serious thought to having him cut it to 20" or even 18" before he threads it. Dont even have the opportunity to shoot beyond 600 yards. Just getting started in reloading so I have some flexibility with bullet choice. What kinda numbers are you getting out of your shortened 3006 and a can? Currently getting 2725 FPS with a 180 grain Core-Lockt @2500' elevation and factory barrel length. Waiting on a Backcountry Banish suppressor so its a 5-ish inch suppressor. Rifle doesnt like lighter bullets sadly.
Thanks,

I've got a model 70 .30-06 that I have had forever and I didn't shoot. Chopped it to 18 and threaded it. 180gr elite hunters are getting 2750 at 1300 feet. I just walked in from loading some 165 Gr TGK to see how they shoot. 2 different 7 inch cans currently, waiting on a Banish to see if different cans change anything. Im going to go shoot both bullets this weekend. I'll let you know the difference in the two.

Just picked up an 18" 308 for my shorty whitetail stick, it'll have a TBAC7 Gen 2 on the end. 20" 6.5 PRC is on the way and I am still mulling over my next elk rifle in either 300WM or 300PRC in either 20" or 22" flavor.

Establish how far you want to shoot with the rifle. You'll also need the min expansion velocity for the bullet you are shooting or impact energy, whatever method you use. Say you want it to be a 600 yard rifle, start dropping your muzzle velocity in your app until the impact velocity or energy at 600 is just above the bullet's requirements. Now you have a minimum muzzle velocity, cut the barrel as short as you can until you reach that velocity. Depending on the cartridge you may be surprised at how short you can go and still have the bullet perform at your max shooting distance.
