I went out this morning and shot my 4 groups before work. The tightest group was just under 5/8" at 200 yards. I am shooting retumbo and the bullets are seated .010 off the lands. Now I have my load I need to get my drops figured out. A little over 3 weeks til the elk hunt, I'm a little behind but I think I'll get it dialed in by then. I will be hunting cows and spikes on Oct. 8th.

Thanks deadwolf. It's a pretty cool place to shoot, there are some petroglyphs up along those ledges and all around a small cave.

I wish people could clean up after themselves though. There were a couple tv's and a couch and trash all over in a few spots around there. I have never understood the desire to take a tv out and shoot it and leave the mess for everyone to see.

mcr-85, tell me about your rifle build. I'm having Jon Addis at 419 firearms build me a .270 right now, have all parts in order and I can't wait to have it in hand.

Remington 700 long action
PTG fluted 1 piece bolt
Benchmark #5 fluted 1-9 finished at 28"
Timney trigger
Stocky stocks cheap $200 stock
Vortex Viper HSLR 6-24
20 MOA base

I like the gun quite a bit. It was built on a short action originally. I had trouble with mag length vs seating depth. I shot the rifle last year in the vortex extreme with Randy (mntwrunner) and shot an elk in October and then sent it back to trade the action for a long action. I should be running right around 3000 fps with that load.

I am fond of the 270s.

I picked up a 1:8 twist .277 carbon proof research barrel, going to make a 270 win mag that GA Precision is going to build. Have 400+ Berger 170's and 300 matrix 175's. Talk about hoping you can get good results out of two bullets. Probably be a year + before I have the project done but going to have NULA change my 270win to a 6.5x284.

That sounds like a nice future build dotman. You will have to start a thread and show it off when you get it built.

I picked up a howa 270 and still looking at barrels. Thinking of going 270ai so I can still shoot ammo off the shelf. 270wm sounds interesting too.

When my gun was still at the gunsmith I questioned the 27 Nosler. Since the chamber had been cut already I stuck with the wsm.

Is this a 270 WSM? Did you do anything to that’s stock? I have the same one and was wondering if anything needed to be done to make it better.

Yes this is my .270 WSM. I haven't done anything to that stock other than paint it. Its not the nicest stock out there, but it seems to work ok. Everything I've killed with it doesn't know it was so cheap. :) One day I'll put something nicer on my gun but for now I'm ok with it.
