In my 23" barrel there was 100fps different with RL26, in between the 200.20x and the 215hyb.
In my 26” 300wsm the 215’s are going 2963ft/s and I think Justin C is getting close to 2950ft/s with a 24” barrel, just wasn’t sure how quickly the speed drops with the 300wsm.

What was your speed with the 23” tube? We also use RL26.

Please keep us posted on the wsm 200's. I have some on order and plan to spin up one myself soon.

I never did a lot of development with the 215, I'm going to start perusing it again though. I do recall I hit 2997 (71gr)in new brass with RL26 but there was bolt lift above 70gr on my notes. 68.5-69.5 grain was a total of 12 fps spread on 3 shots 2902-2914. This was when the barrel was new, so it'll likely hit those speeds a full grain or more less but I'll find out.

I settled at 68.6 with my load, that is very interesting, really not seeing much of a velocity drop from 26” to 23”

Ryan you should test the 215’s with the 20” and see how much drop in velocity you get.

My barrel is a hells canyon armory summit contour 9.5tw cut as long as Mike could get it, closer to 23.5. I loaded a ladder from 67.2-69gr with 215s 12k off lands, running 4k nk tension. The 1000y br ftr guys run heavy nk tension close to lands to keep release consistent to es/SD. Idk it or works but a friend runs 210vld behind rl23 2860fps and it shoots tiny with 4k nk tension.

First post for me but I wanted to share some info. I did some testing with the Berger 200.20x. The test was conducted using my Alamo 300 wsm with a 24” proof barrel. The load is 70.7g of RL26 with a ave muzzle velocity of 2986fps, ES of 13. The test was with homemade ballistic gel made with Knox powder mixed at 10%. Front of block was covered with thin piece of rawhide. Block was shot at 250 yards with impact velocity of 2627fps. Results were 17” of overall penetration. Initial expansion at 2.5”, large wound cavity from 2.5” to 12.5”. Bullet had a retained weight of 90.1g. I know that this might not be the most scientific test but it has helped me give this set up a shot for my up coming Idaho bear hunt. That looks about as textbook as it gets. Longer range should be better too. If you get a chance, can you duplicate at 50yds?

Thanks for your work.

@wind gypsy and @Ryan Avery did either of you get any experience using the 200.20x on game?

I have a pile of them to load in my 30-06 (1:9 twist, 18 inch barrel). Was curious since a little time has past....

Thanks,

I haven't and I wont anytime soon. My current WM barrel shoots 215s well and I have a decent stock of them and WSM is limited by 2.9" mag length.

Killed a small bull elk at 331y last year with the 200.20x. Bull was broadside and hit about 3” behind the shoulder he took two steps and fell over. Insides where jello and looked similar to the elk we’ve killed with 215’s. My dad just shot a big mule deer buck at 365y with the 200.20x. The buck was quartering away on a steep downhill. The bullet went in right behind the left shoulder and came out on the right side of the brisket. The exit whole was the size of a baseball. Heart and lungs where destroyed and the buck went 15 yards. Still a very small sample size but the 200.20x has performed well for us.

300wm, 26” barrel, 200.20x doing 3050fps.

The two Alliant powders will give the highest velocity before pressure and accurate likely. The two Hodgdon will give likely great accuracy. I personally would opt for a 185 berger in the 06 case as tge velocity will edge out the BC of the heavier bullet within normal hunting distances. Ive killed or witnessed 3 different elk taken with the 185 berger and it was very lethal at 2900 muzzle velocity on boiler room impacts, 300wsm with H4350.

I was thinking the same but mostly because he's limited by a 17" barrel.
