What velocity is everyone getting from Berger 215's with H1000? I seem to have a node at 75gr, but doesn't 2,704 seem low for 75gr of H1000? My Highlander has a 24 inch barrel. Could I just have a slow batch of H1000?

Any pressure signs at 77gr? 2,700 seems reasonable from a 24" tube, especially if the barrel is new.

Nope no pressure signs at 77gr - maybe slightly sticky bolt lift, but nothing noticeable beyond that

Yeah brand new Bergara barrel - trying to get this load developed

If it were me I'd pick an accurate load in that 74.5-75.5 range and run with it, you may gain some velocity after the barrel breaks in. Good luck!

Yep - I was thinking that or trying another pound of H1000 @ 75 gr and seeing if it is right in the same range. If it is, then I will run with that. If not, ditch the old stuff and run with the new lot # lol

Also have some 4831sc I might try

I used that combo in the past with a Weatherby Backcountry 26" tube and settled with 77 grains of H1000 and 2730fps was what I was getting. But this barrel is slower than most.

Interesting, so my 2,704 may not be far off

That seems low. I reload for a buddies 26" barrel and he's getting right at 2900 with 215's, 69.5 g H1000, Hornady Brass and Federal 215's.
So with a 2 inch shorter barrel, I would expect it to be around 2,850 - which is similar to @LivetohuntID's numbers

Have you field validated to verify the chronograph was working? I personally just chronograph for spreads and let the chips fall where they may. Whats two more clicks at 800?

I've seen a lot of lot to lot variance in H1000. Norma brass has a lot of capacity and takes more powder to get pressure. What someone else is using with a different lot of powder and a different case and a different chamber/barrel has little bearing on what your rifle should do.

That said, yes, it is pretty slow for a 24" win mag. If it's a fresh barrel with virgin brass, things are probably going to change anyway.

As far as nodes, two 26" seekins havak barrels didn't have a "node" that I was happy with but went over 2900 FPS with norma brass and H1000 without issue. The bartlein carbon tube that replaced them shoots everything well up to mid 2900's. I haven't hit a point that I felt was too hot yet but I know pushing higher 2900s isn't mild.

Check that...just went back to my notes and it was 2830fps...thought that 2730 # was a little low but still slower than most.

I’d put 150rd through that barrel before you really start load development, my 300wsm gained almost 150ft/s once it was really broken in. You may not see the increase I had but you’ll see something.
Wow, I didn't not realize there would be such a difference

It’s possible that could be your low velocity node, that does seem slow to me.

How does your case fill look? You have a lot of up and down velocity swings? What primers are you using?
