Is the 6.5 PRC really any diff then a 6.5wsm?

Yes. A 6.5 SAUM will get another 50 FPS with 140s over PRC and a WSM has roughly 10 grains more capacity than the SAUM does.

PRC doesn't have rebated rim or a belt and is thinner so should be less finicky to mag feed well.

Is the PRC shorter then the wsm or is it not as fat also? I just wonder why it’s becoming popular yet the 6.5wsm never has, I don’t think the 6.5wsm ever even made it into a factory option like the 270, 7, 300 and 325wsm.

Also I swear I read neither a short or long action is good to build a 6.5 PRC off of and that a mid action is better, so wondering what’s up with this cal.

The PRC is super efficient it will push a 147 ELD-M around that magical 3000 FPS. The 6.5 WSM is a beast. It can push a 147 at 3300.

150 grain right at 3100.I am going to check all my load data and chronograph the load again(third time). It looks real.

SAUM, WSM, 26/28/30 Nosler, and RUM cases have rebated rims, meaning the case above the rim has a larger diameter than the standard magnum case head giving them more case volume. The PRC does not have a rebated rim and thus the case diameter is smaller. WSM have steeper shoulders and longer case bodies giving them more capacity than the SAUMs. Not all magazine options play friendly with the rebated rim cases without some fiddling. Overall length concerns are very similar between SAUM and PRC. I'm not as familiar with WSM, it might be a little longer case.

PRC/SAUM/WSM are all ideal in a medium or XM length action. With long heavy bullets seated ideally they get over 2.9" and can go beyond 3" in a 6.5. You can do pretty dang good with a wyatts box maxed out on a short action. A long action has more space than needed, I think the tikka length in a long action configuration is pretty convenient.

6.5 140s stabilize the best around 3,000 from my research. 3300 too fast.

I'm not even excited for the Berger 156 anymore.. Previous BC's floated put it about on par with the 147 ELD and 150 SMK.

I think that’s why they redesigned it. I’m pretty fed up with Berger’s excuses for not having inventory and promising new bullets then taking two years or more to get them to market.
