Federal Fusion 95gr has been great out of my Browning A-Bolt. 3 for 3 since I switched to it from Winchester Core-Lokts (which worked fine too). Its plenty of punch for whitetails with halfway decent shot placement.
The only Federal ammo I have ever used in a 243 was the Fusion and it performed well. I can't tell you how many I have killed with plain old 100gr Winchester Super X. The Hornady SST has worked very well for me too.
After reading some post I wonder why guys keep recommending Hornady when the op specifically said federal .....now I think like a few of the guys also recommend the 85 grain tsx or any of the bonded core soft points should be great as long as they shoot well for you.
My kids shot a savage axis .243 for their first deer. I found the blue box federal soft points to work best in the gun and it never failed me on a well placed shot. This is for Texas deer, doe and buck sized.
I wouldn’t get caught up on buying a certain kind of ammo for your gun, buy a bunch of boxes and see what the gun shoots best. Having confidence in the weapon and ammo combo is more important than saving some
Money on ammo that doesn’t shoot for squat in your gun. Expensive paperweight is what I call that...
