Shot Whitetail out to 200-yards with the Following, .270, 6.5CM, 30-30, 308, 7mm-08, all of them dispatched deer very effectively. Do your part, Zero your rifle, practice a lot, build confidence with your rifle and put the bullet where it should and you'll be happy.
Yeah, this exactly. Don't overthink it.

Agreed 100% with the comments above - so many calibers can kill a whitetail...it's all about shot placement and practice. I'm fond of .270 and 30-30, but just bought a Tikka 6.5 CM and I'm sure it will do just as good of a job.

Truth is lots of stuff works fine inside 400 yards. Long rangers nerd out for +500 yards for good reason but the cost and pain in the ass factor is wasted on most. I Switched from 308 to 6.5 creed for not good reason at aLL A few years back. The deer don’t seem to notice. It is softer shooting but now i am wearing skinny jeans and drinking chai and all my hunting buddies make fun of me.

a 6 or 6.5mm of your preferred flavor. If only talking lead bullets it'd be a 6mm, if monos are in play i'd want a 6.5.

I'm a 7mm guy. personally I think 7mm-08 with 140s or the 7mm and 300 mags with mid weight velocity

I’d go with a 30-06. I’m pretty sure only one other guy tossed that out there. Simply put a 30-06 will do really well for what you are looking to accomplish.
