I am not a glassing guru, so the compromise with the Anvil seems minimal to me. And, the Anvil is far easier to glass with than any other ball head I have used.

The lever and positive lock on the ball makes a big difference. The lock lever moves with the bino or scope, which makes a meaningful difference. In that way you drive the Anvil ballhead with the lever like you drive a panhead. On a regular ballhead, you tension knob is separate from the glass.

Of course, for shooting it is awesome because the level runs with the gun and driving the rifle on it is smooth.

Comparing the Anvil to other ballheads isn't straight across is what I am saying. It has a different feel in its function.
