You knew it was coming...

A few of my favorites - I'm sure there will be more:

Pink Floyd - Time

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Iron Maiden - Hollowed be thy Name

Mark my words, believe my soul lives on
Don't worry now that I have gone
I've gone beyond to seek the truth

When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you'll begin to understand
Life down here is just a strange illusion

Tyler Childers feathered indians or Charleston girl are both great lyrically.

Well my heart is sweating bullets
From the circles it has raced
Like a little feathered indian
Callin' out the clouds for rain
I'd go runnin' through the thicket
I'd go careless through the thorns
Just to hold her for a minute
Though it'd leave me wanting more

Snowin’ on Raton. Townes Van Zandt

When the wind don't blow in Amarillo
And the moon along
The Gunnison don't rise
Shall I cast my dreams
Upon your love, babe
And lie beneath
The laughter of your eyes
It's snowin' on Raton
Come morning I'll be through
Them hills and gone
Mother thinks the road
Is long and lonely
Little brother thinks
The road is straight and fine
Little darling thinks
The road is soft and lovely
I'm thankful that old road
Is a friend of mine
Bid the years good-bye
You cannot still them
You cannot turn
The circles of the sun
You cannot count the miles
Until you feel them
And you cannot hold
A lover that has gone
Tomorrow the mountains
Will be sleeping
Silent 'neath a blanket
Green and blue
All that I shall hear
The silence they are keeping
I'll bring all their promises to you

A few that come to mind off the top of my head..

Pink Floyd - Time

Same song, but I love the next verse...

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Bob Seger - Against the Wind - "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then"

A lot of Tech N9ne's stuff is lyrical mastery.. can't even pick a top 10.

From Mark Knofler’s Song for Sonny Liston:

“look out y’all, the Bear’s in town;
Somebody’s money says the Bear’s going down;”

and

“somebody said, the Bear took a flop;
Couldn’t believe it when I saw him drop”

Mark wasn’t talking about bear hunting, but in my mind, it’s a great hunting song.

Also, as long as you are wasting time on the internet (and I know you are), do yourself a favor and YouTube the first Liston/Ali fight. Epic!

John Prine - Paradise

When I die let my ashes float down the Green River
Let my soul roll on up to the Rochester dam
I'll be halfway to Heaven with Paradise waitin'
Just five miles away from wherever I am.

And daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

The Beatles - In My Life

There are places I'll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all

"Follow me" by the great Rory Gallagher

I want to plant a star on the sky
One you can find at the end of the night
I want to climb a ladder to space
And leave without trace
Cause now is the time
Things are gonna be so clear
Well I'm light years from here
In some other space
Let me take a tear from your eye
And leave it behind stay by my side
Won't you follow me
Where I'm bound
Time's for borrowing now
Won't you follow me
Time is tight
Before things swallow me down
I've been locked in this cage
Gonna break away before it's too late
I'm gonna rewrite the page take the stage
And live tomorrow today
You'll find the dreams you mislaid
They want to runaway
All the due's have been paid
Yes it's time to depart
Go with your heart follow the flame
Won't you follow me
Where I'm bound
Time's for borrowing now
Won't you follow me
Time is tight
Before things swallow me down

Greatest song verse in music history!
