No bill just his pick for interior secretary, and rumor that she may latch on to the #landback movement. I for one see no reason in the current political climate why they wouldn’t try it, they can just cancel anybody who speaks out against it

Do these members have standing with representatives, or are their ideas dismissed quickly? So with Biden tapping Deb Halaand for interior secretary and rumor that she may try to transfer public lands back to the tribes how do we feel now about Biden? I mean several of y’all stated you didn’t care where he stood on guns because you will still be able to hunt with bows on public land but what do we do when we don’t have guns or public land?

The Democrats are not friends to outdoorsmen. On a select few issues Democrats may seem or may benefit outdoorsmen, however on the whole, the Republicans are our friends. Be careful what you wish for!!!

Thanks for the link. I agree completely in theory with the majority of the paragraph that I'm re-posting, which is what Libertarians and Libertarian learning Republicans believe in:
"Congress shall immediately pass universal legislation providing for a timely and orderly mechanism requiring the federal government to convey certain federally controlled public lands to states. We call upon all national and state leaders and representatives to exert their utmost power and influence to urge the transfer of those lands, identified in the review process, to all willing states for the benefit of the states and the nation."
I can see where this upsets people and I understand. They have the right to be upset. I'm mostly in agreement with the paragraph and agree with those upset with it, that yes you have to trust the Republicans not to transfer off all federal land, which a few want to do. You can't trust politicians, doesn't matter which party!! So, I'm conflicted overall. Right, I fixed "many" to "some" Republicans in my previous post. However, that paragraph is quintessential Libertarian. Thanks

I don't think there's anything wrong with state management of public lands in theory.

My issue is what has repeatedly occurred in reality. Oregon, particularly the Coast Range, has a ton of state managed public land.

There have been several serious efforts to push to have large tracts of those lands sold off because they weren't "profitable." The entire Elliot State Forest being a recent example.

All of such efforts, to my knowledge, have come from one side of the political aisle. I don't like that, but it is a reality.

If you're a Republican who values public lands you have to make peace with the fact that sometimes (not always) that personal value is going to conflict with the party agenda. If you're a Democrat who likes guns you will often have to do the same.

If I put my support behind something along the lines of what you posted, there is not a doubt in my mind that large swaths of land with good elk hunting would become off-limits to hunters over time in my state. I don't think there's any doubt that that would happen across the west. Look at the regulations on State Trust land in Colorado.

Private timber companies in Oregon have, in recent years, come to the conclusion that charging for access could be profitable. I've got no qualms with that, they own the land.

But I'm glad there's plenty of land I don't have to drop several hundred bucks a year to access.

While i don’t disagree with your sentiment, I feel it works the opposite unfortunately. I don’t think they care much about where we stand. They are already elected. I think it starts before that, we need to know where they stand and vote accordingly. Too many egos in politics. Too much money in politics.

Here in California, our legislature is proposing a complete ban on bear hunting. My California BHA policy committee is looking in to this. I’ll wait to see what they come up with for now....

Public land is not replaceable. Once Republicans buy them, they're gone forever. A bunch of the nonsense the liberals do in four years can be undone (obvious exceptions excluded). I haven't gone deep into the BHA ethos, but their claim that they only care about land access seems reasonable. Even if the hipster vibe is lame.

Now, I'll go read the 22 pages of theories on how BHA causes abortions, etc etc.
