So I put off the purchase of the timberline last fall, and now I'm going to order a bikini frame instead. The one thing that worries me, Ive never used a kifaru, and the stays are not replaceable if I order ones that dont fit me properly.

How do I figure out if I need flat back or standard stays?

And for you guys 5'8" to 5'9 or so do most of you order the 26"?

Thanks.

I called and asked about the types of stays before I purchased my bag. I was told to stand with my back flat against the wall. Stick one of your hands into the small of your back, if you can get it into the hole created between the small of your back and the wall then you are a standard stay. Obviously if you cant get your hand into this pocket you are a candidate for the flat back stays. Flat butt people are usually flat back too from what I was told.

Hope this helps.

I'm 5'8'' and went with 24 inch stays. But it really depends on your torso length. My torso is 17.5.

I am 5' 10" ish.. 17.5 torso.. Also 24" stays. I met Aron at Kifaru and tried on 26" and 24". I personally liked the 24" better because my head was not hitting the frame when I looked back.

I took another walk yesterday after some more adjustments and had 50lbs in the pack. Only did 2 miles and the only time I noticed it was when I saw the ENORMOUS shadow it casts. I had it full all the way to the snow collar with bulky items just to see how it handled being top heavy.

I stopped by REI and had them measure my torso (3) different times by different people. Once I was 18", once I was 18.5, and once I was 19" :)

If I was you I would go with 26", you can't go wrong going with the 26" stays even if 24" would work.

Yep, I even get my wife at 5'3 26" stays and she has no complaints and it works fine for her....then it always works fine for me too if I want to borrow her pack. :D

I'm 5'9" and went with the 26" stays. I don't think they're too tall and I like the lift I get from them.

Man you guys got me thinking. I'm 5/9 and ordered the 24 stays. I just order my frame and pack last week.. Now if the 24 stays give me lift great. I'm 18.5/19 back. Now I don't want them to high, as I'm also planning to use they bivy hunting and don't want them catching trees and such.. So I hope I get good lift with them.

I say 26" stays. Too short equals epic fail with 80-100+ lb. loads. A little too long doesn't hurt anything. Good luck.

I got 24in, but im only 5'7. I had a t1 that has 26in stays and decided to go 24 this time around.

I can get some lift out of a 22in stay though.

5'9" and Aron led me to the 24" stays. I trust he was right, but won't know until I see how it fits.

Yep thats the reason why I go with the 26" stays....not for the left I get toying around with the pack in house or going in weight...I REALLY notice it when you load it up with 80+ pounds and I start sucking down on those load lifters....everything feel great with 50 pounds in it :D
