Where? I am interested in upgrading to better foot wear- price is not a factor. Who has the high end stuff to try on? How do you know what fits right? Lots of running stores with "fit" specialist to ensure you get what fits correctly and works... Who does this for hunting boots?

Lathrop & Sons is a solid "over the phone" vendor - they seem to have a solid understanding and willingness when a customer is buying like that - It is REALLY nice to have a knowledgeable sales person who also walks the talk so insight is included - Cabela's has some high end and the Meindl lineup is good quality stuff for the most part, at least you'd get an idea of what a good fit might feel like even if you don't end up buying - Rule #1,2 & 3 ... if they don't feel good when you buy them they never will feel good

do a google search in your area, specify top shelf brands in the search ie; Lowa Kennetrek Scarpa etc - "Usually" if a shop sells a $300-$400 boot they know at least a little bit about fitting them

I typically look for mountaineering stores. REI typically has at least a few good options.

Scheels has a few good brands (Kenetreks & Crispi), Sportsmans Warehouse has a couple (Zamberlan, Kenetreks, Asolo), REI has some too but they usually cater to the hiking crowd (Asolo, Solomon, Lowa) and don't carry the higher boots. You can buy online from someone with free returns also.

Certain REI's have more boots than others. Look online before you go. 2 of the 5 REIs in my area had Lowa Tibets to try on... wish I had checked before

I had the same problem last year. I had good luck at an industry trade show (Dallas Safari Club), where several of the boot companies were exhibiting. I now have a pair of Kenetrek's that fit perfectly. I have a ton of confidence in them every time I put th on. Before this, I bought a great pair of Garmont mountaineering boots from REI online once I had exhausted all other local options, but the fit was never what I wanted. FYI-If Mountaineering boots are a touch snug in the toe box, return them. They are NEVER going to break in and stretch like most any other type of shoe. I tried it for an entire season. Boots never budged, I just went through a bunch of Lueko Tape.

Thank you guys- this gives me a good place to start!
Wish you were closer to us up in Salt Lake! We carry Crispi, Zamberlan, Lowa, Kenetrek, Scarpa, and more. Best time would be once we after we get all the new Crispi boots around the first or second week of May.
