With a 45-50 lb bow you should get pass thru's most of the time at trad bow ranges, if your head is sharp and you don't choose a head with steep blade angles whether its a 2 blade or 3 blade. It should at a minimum be sticking out both sides as long as you don't hit heavy bone. I shoot Simmons Safaris in bows in that range and they normally zip through and they're a pretty big head. But I won't shoot at deer past 15 yards either.

I picked up a new longbow yesterday that's 45@29 I've been working on tuning. I'm shooting GT 500's 31.5'' long with 225 grain tips and it's smacking my target like a freight train. I think I'm going to get some 125 grain ACE 2 blades with 100 grain adapters, and I may very well elk hunt with it assuming they shoot well. I'm pretty sure with a sharp 2 blade head and under 25 yards it'll do the trick given the chance.
