Went to my wife’s family farm in Ohio for some whitetail hunting. Started with her crushing her first deer ever at 14 yards with her bow, no blood or arrow for 40 yards, after things were looking bleak I decided to walk into the edge of the woods the way she said he went to find him piled up not 10 yards away. She was thrilled. She has high standards for deer (unlike standards for her husband). She has passed on multiple bucks and does waiting for a mature buck. Well she succeeded, and I couldn’t be more proud. He had a 3” kicker off of his right main beam straight back and with barely a left ear hanging on and deep lacerations to his neck from fighting. He was a good warrior who wouldn’t see another birthday. Two days later with freezing temps and light snow it was my turn. Appearing abruptly at 40 yards a good mature buck comes out and makes his way to 27 yards and I let one fly right into the wheelhouse. A jump and a kick and off he ran while all I heard was loud crashing moments later. I went home to grab her outta bed to help retrieve. Less than 50 yards and my biggest buck to date and first with my bow was dead smashed between two trees with not a single drop of blood to his death site. Be hard to beat this week with a wife I’m blessed to do these things with me. All of this coming off of tag soup in Colorado otc 10 day hunt with 60 miles on the boot leather and only three encounters the whole time and 0 complaints from her.
